Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies Expands Into Services

Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies has announced a new Manufacturing-as-a-Service subsidiary.

The new MaaS business, Hybrid Advanced Manufacturing (Hybrid AM), emerged this week. It’s set to leverage Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies’ (HMT’s) expertise in both CNC and additive manufacturing. As the announcement explains:

“HMT has been spearheading the transition of hybrid systems into commercial reality for over eight years and in spite of COVID 19, HMT was fortunate enough to double the size of its facilities. This expansion now houses the new Advanced Manufacturing division headed by Peter-Jon Solomon, MSc, CEng. The division wields state-of-the-art laser metal deposition and polymer/composite extrusion additive, all integrated with subtractive, and inspection capabilities.”

The HMT team is among those leading the charge in hybrid manufacturing. The company offers hardware like the interesting plug-and-play AMBIT XTRUDE, which brings polymer 3D printing capabilities to “any machine tool”:

HMT charmingly says the AMBIT XTRUDE makes any machine “AMBIT DEXTROUS.” I love a manufacturing pun.

Other AMBIT tool-changeable laser cladding heads include the intriguing AMBIT MULTI:

Such versatile manufacturing capabilities, whether it be DED or extrusion-based 3D printing or CNC milling, make for a compelling hardware portfolio. But HMT has come to recognize existing demand as well for MaaS. The launch of the Hybrid AM business is set to open up access to these capabilities, as HMT Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Jason Jones explains:

“We understand that many would like access to our technology, but do not yet have enough demand to purchase their own system. This new division furthers our mission to enable wider access to hybrid technology. Our integrated approach to digital manufacturing drives untapped value for customer applications not practical with other approaches.”

MaaS offers a very significant benefit for those looking to take advantage of advanced manufacturing capabilities without investing in new capital equipment (and the training that goes with it): Immediate access to not only advanced equipment but the expertise to help guide projects from conception through to completion.
